CHARACTERS OF JESUS 

A child is the image of his parent he grows and develops from the characters, behavior and attitude of the parent. They also develop some physical traits like eye, completion, nose, shape etc. the child is the true character of the parent. The same happen to a new child born into God family, he will develop the character, attribute and behavior of God, and they become carrier of God image and live for God.

Believers are destiny to become Christ in nature, word and deed (2Corinthians 3:18)

CHARACTER OF JESUS

Character of Jesus Christ is the righteousness while righteousness is holiness in action. According to the book of (Ephesians 5:9) the fruit of the spirit is in all righteousness and faith. This scripture verse make it clear to us that righteousness is the act and combination of  the fruit of the spirit; in other word, character of Jesus Christ is the manifestations of the holy spirit in his life which every believers should emulate

THE FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT

According to the book of Galatians 5:22-23 which said “ But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,   Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Paul the apostle in this scripture verse gives some picture of Christ character and traits while on earth.

The fruit of the spirit is the righteous lives of Jesus Christ. It is a blessing to all believers to emulate and lives like Jesus Christ. The fruits can be group into three.

INWARD, OUTWARD, AND UPWARD ATTRIBUTES/CHARACTERS OF JESUS

1)    INWARD CHARACTERS OF JESUS

Love

Joy

Peace

Inward characters are the manifestation of the spirit in our mind or thoughts. It’s the feeling or good state of mind. Jesus Christ is love and lovely, he is joy and joyful and he is peace and peaceful. Any who have Jesus Christ in his / her will surely have love, joy and peace they can also be lovely, joyful and peaceful.

2)    OUTWARD CHARACTERS OF JESUS

Patience

Kindness

Goodness

Outward characters are the physical behavior of Jesus Christ towards other. Jesus Christ wait for his appointed time before he commence his ministry, he patiently endure the cross and all form of blaspheming at the point of his death that glorifying him. “Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.” (James 5:11). God is patience and command us to be patience   “Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:”Romans 15:5.

Jesus Christ has a kindness heart toward humanity by his grace to forgive our sin. He endure the cross suffering the pains and shad his blood for the remission of our sins. Jesus Christ has power to forgive sins. (Luke 5:24, 23:34) he also commands us to show kindness towards and forgiveness towards other. “Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:” Luke 6:37.

Goodness here means the moral and pleasant way of Christ life.  A good or moral child is a child that lives according to ethnic standard of the family which is the combination of the attribute principles and will of the both parent. Jesus Christ lives according to the standard of God. He never forget his purpose of coming to this world, he didn’t deviate from the will and love of his father, and always do what please his heavenly father. I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. (John 5:30). He told us that we must do the will of his father if we what to become his family.  “For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.”  (Matthew 12:50) He also charge us to do the will and love of his heavenly father if we want to get into the kingdom of God. “Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 7:21

3)    UPWARD CHARACTERS OF JESUS

Faithfulness

Meekness

Self-control

Upward characters are the characters of Jesus toward God his heavenly father. He was so faithful to God his father, he believe and support the program and plan of God for humanity, he never deny, deviate or complain about will of his father for any reasons Jesus Christ is a faithful son of God even to the point of death. A true Disciples of Christ must emulate him and be a faithful follower.

Meekness is another upward character of Jesus, it’s the gentle and humble part of Christ behavior on earth, people hardly differentiate him among his disciples, he always do what please God without complain. Christ off his glory to come in human nature born in an unworthy place to born human being talk of glorious God, he eat with his creature (human). Christ being the God the son didn’t rank himself with God the father, he never take any glory for any of miracle, healing, sign and wonder perform but direct all the praise, glory and adoration to God his father. Jesus always attends to people need and do what people want in as much it please God.

He never found of cruel with anyone rather he will found a way to avoid the cruel. Matthew 17:24-27.

Self –control is also one of the upward characters of Jesus; it’s the ability to have control over your emotions, appetites and inclination. Self control makes one control his action, and make sure that his behaviors are consistent with objective and goals. It’s what makes you deny yourself the pleasure and temptation that lead people astray and to do only those thing that you know are right and necessary.

Christ was man of self control, he discipline himself  to have control over his emotion, appetite and inclination doing only what will his purpose on earth a complete success, he did not allow his emotion and inclination to lead him astray (Matthew 26:51-54). He also deal with his appetites, he fasted for 40 days and night and devil tempt him in many way but he conquer with the help of holy spirit and self discipline (Matthew 4:2-10). Then Christ called us to learn from him. Matthew 11:29       

Apostle Paul noted these in the life of Christ the spirit been and charge the churches at Galatia and Ephesus and every Christ believers to imitate Christ.

Paul to Galatians churches:

And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. Galatians 5:24-26.

Paul to Ephesus churches:

(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth ;) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. Ephesians 5:9-11.

Paul to the Romans churches:

Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. Romans14:19.

Paul to Timothy his spiritual son:

But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. (1Timothy 6:11)  Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart (2Timothy 2:22). 

Paul to Hebrew Churches:

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: (Hebrews 12:14)   likewise Peter the apostle also advises the believer to follow after Christ. For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: (1peter 2:21)    

5 BENEFIT OF EMULATING CHARACTERS OF JESUS

1)    It will very easy to live a righteous life

2)    It gives you assurance of salvation

3)    It builds strong relationship with Christ and God

4)    It make it easy to preach gospel of Jesus Christ to non-believes

5)    It gives us authority over the flesh

6)    It bring quick answer to our prayers

7)    It gives us joy and makes us to leave peaceful even with our enemy (Proverb 16:7)
8) He will bless us with gifts of holy spirit

9)    You will reign with him in his kingdom

CONCLUSION

Love and Righteousness is the characters of Jesus Christ and a true follower of Jesus will be like Jesus in all manners. For one not to lose his soul you must be a true follower of Jesus.
